Eat St. Digital Cookbook

Eat St. Digital Cookbook

In this NSERC funded applied research project Invoke Media, a Vancouver-based digital agency specializing in Web, Mobile and social app development partnered with SIM Centre researchers Celeste Martin and Jonathan Aitken to develop an e-Cookbook for the television show, Eat St. on Food Network Canada. Eat St., is a fast paced show about food truck culture, showcasing the delicious street food and the interesting characters that run the carts. The project entailed creating and designing an e-Cookbook that would complement their existing app and showcase a series of curated recipes from season 03 of the show.

Happy Privacy Day! An Update from the Collusion Visualization Design Team

For the past several months, I have been leading a design team at Emily Carr and Mozilla with Mozilla's Collusion lead developer Dethe Elza to develop an interactive visualization layer for the Firefox Collusion Add-on. We're taking this opportunity on Data Privacy Day to give a progress report on the new design for Collusion visualization interface, especially since Mozilla has been named the Most Trusted Internet Company for Privacy in 2012.

The power of letter writing in the digital age

The power of letter writing in the digital age

Letter writing. When was the last time you wrote one? Hand-writing a letter is one of the most useful and informative ways to pass on information. But in this age of typing 40wpm the art of a handwritten letter has become somewhat of a novelty. A project spearheaded by ECUAD Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Culture + Community, Duane Elverum, intends to gather the strength of the masses, and produce letters for social change. Duane writes:

Emily Carr student Bob Werner hired by GrowLab Alumni company Sosido

This summer, Bob Werner (4th year, Interaction Design) was hired by Sosido, a clinical knowledge exchange network, which is a GrowLab alumni company acquired by LX Ventures. Sosido serves as a platform for healthcare professionals to share peer reviewed published clinical research and their practical clinical knowledge. Over the course of the summer, Bob worked on the user-interface for their e-reader, conceptualizing a new way to visualize medical journals for an online platform: “My role was to ideate possibilities within the user interface, and also to complete an elegant communication design which fell in line with Sosido's new look.”
